How I decided Upon My Topic
As the time grew short for me to find a topic for my research paper, I was at a loss. No particular country had my interest. Time was running out, I had no earthly idea what I was going to write about. I wanted my topic to be something I have interest in and could write a substantial paper on. Praying for a stroke of genius, I started to watch my favorite Disney movie, Cheetah Girls 3. At the end of the movie, there is this elaborate wedding scene and the light bulb in my head immediately jumped out. But as I read about the wedding culture in India I stumbled upon the interesting epidemic of dowry deaths. Combing through source after source, I was astonished at how big of a commonality this was in India. At that moment, I knew I had found my topic Women everyday are killed over insufficiently fulfilled dowry demands by materialistic husbands and their families. These women are slaughtered and local police are ineffective to the solution. As I read more, my passion for the subject grew and still continues to grow.
My Writing Process
As I started drafting and researching, I started realizing that there were not many articles on the issue of dowry deaths. At least not many written written with the time stamp that I needed. Because of this it was very challenging to gather relevant sources for my essay. While looking for evidence to build my case I kept stumbling upon the issue of child marriage, which just like dowry deaths are a very important issue in India. I made the executive decision to narrow my topic to dowry deaths and its Impact on women for the sake of cohesiveness in my essay.
